Performance at City gallery
Devon artists are set to show that they have a way with words with a new exhibition which is appearing at Exeter´s Phoenix Gallery.
The exhibition looks at a decade of performance writing by talented past and present students and staff from Dartington College of Arts in south Devon.
Performance writing was pioneered by the college in the 1980s it is described as practice which celebrates writing and explores a way which performance and literature can be connected. The works are by artists from across the world and in a variety of art forms. They all focus on ways that writing can be used in different mediums, for example, with sound, video or in installations. Organiser Kate Wilson said the collection hope to challenge people´s assumptions. "We think that people might be encouraged to think about what writing is and its material uses," she added. The exhibition opened last Thursday and runs until May 16th at the Gandy Street gallery.
