Introducing the project: KIOSK CORRESPONDANCE

THE INSTALLATION
We make an installation based on this photograph.
The installation is identical regarding placement and function however does not resemble or copy in terms of actual objects. The recreation is a visible disposition between past and present, the new objects can be viewed against the photograph. Therefore the objects become a translation and are offering a re-reading. For example we use a 1970s green lamp shade for the installation to replace the 1950s yellow lampshade seen in the photograph displayed. A repetition slightly altered. Working from a visual recreation of the photograph we create a text generating method, which exemplifies the use of translation. We wish to offer the viewer an active reading through flickering between photograph and installation. It is in this place `ìn between`/nth space where the performance takes place.

THE LIVE INTERACTION
GilbertandGrape will be staked out in a red phone kiosk by the pier on the west coast of Norway for 6 hours. GilbertandGrape will call the gallery from the phone kiosk once every 45 minutes and upload a photograph from this moment to their website . When the phone rings the audience are invited to pick it up and receive an exclusive report of GilbertandGrape´s whereabouts and mischief’s. We hope to mirror the same process also in live interaction, phone calls/conversation with audience and photographs online. We use digital technology as a way to transfer information as a gap, as the cleavage between the live action and the audience. To date Kiosk Correspondance has been viewed by over 1000 people online.
